On Saturday 17 February, the Welsh Open Brass Band Entertainment Championship witnessed an outstanding performance by Milton Keynes Brass, leaving a lasting impression on both judges and the audience. The band\u2019s captivating theme, \u201cKings and Queens,\u201d featured repertoire that showcased their musical competence. Under the direction of conductor Matt Brown, Milton Keynes Brass presented \u201cThe Crowning\u201d by Jonathan Bates, \u201cCastell Caerfyrddyn\u201d by Alex McGee, a stunning solo performance on Soprano Cornet by Martin Groves of Mozart\u2019s \u201cThe Queen of the Night Aria,\u201d from \u201cThe Magic Flute\u201d, \u201cThe Boy King\u201d by Jonathan Bates, and Grieg\u2019s \u201cIn the Hall of the Mountain King.\u201d The visual element of the performance was elevated by the creative genius of Duncan Bruce leaving the audience in awe and thanks should be added for the excellent performance notes crafted by Helen Pakes.<\/p>\n

The well attended rehearsals and home practice preceding the championship proved fruitful as when the results were announced, Milton Keynes Brass had reason to celebrate, securing a commendable ninth place overall in a fiercely competitive field. The band received a trophy for the highest-placed first section band and a \u00a3300 prize.<\/p>\n

The band made the most of their time in Wales deciding to stay for the weekend. An evening of camaraderie unfolded as they enjoyed a fine meal and a few celebratory drinks at the new Mercure hotel, conveniently located opposite the venue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
